How to: Make an applique onesie

Today I am going to tell you how to make this adorable applique onesie. This project could not be easier. A great project for those of you just starting out sewing. You could also easily do this without a sewing machine by hand stitching. I love the way hand stitching looks I plan to do more of it in the future. I think there is something so charming about it. To make this I simply followed the directions on my Pellon Wonder Under.

*For the onesie I made I stuck with a really basic shape because the fabric already had a cute image I wanted to use. Fabric shown is Premier Prints Ele Kelso/French Blue.

What you will need:
-A clean wrinkle free onesie or t-shirt
-Iron
-Damp pressing cloth
-A scrap of fabric
-A shape/design to applique
-Sewing machine OR needle and thread

Directions:
1. Place rough side of Wonder-Under against wrong side of fabric. Press for 5-8 seconds with hot, dry iron. Let cool, draw or trace desired shape into paper backing then cut.
*Hint: To avoid backward letters and numbers draw on rough side with ball point pen. For dark fabrics redraw shape on paper side. OR If you are printing an image simply flip the image so it prints backwards.

2. Gently peel off paper backing. Position fusible fabric web side down, on the project. Cover with damp press cloth. With iron on wool setting press FIRMLY for 10-15 seconds (Heavier fabrics=more time). Repeat, lifting and overlapping until all fabric is fused. Remove press cloth and iron fabric to eliminate excess moisture.

3. Stitch all the way around your applique shape close to the edge. This can be done on your sewing machine or by hand.*I stitched on my machine you can see some of my stitches in the close up at the top of the post.

Simple and cute. I love it. This was a gift for a cousin of my husband. They had a beautiful baby boy earlier this month! =)

Enjoy! This project is really fun and easy I could make a whole stack of fun applique onesies! Let me know if you have any questions.

Sarah's March Challenge: Gallery Wall

gallery wall

I love gallery walls and have exactly 18 related pins on Pinterest. You could say I'm a little obsessed. I really love walls like the one above that are asymmetric and have different types of frames, but a symmetrical life is a happy life for my husband. Therefore, I need symmetry in my life. Our gallery wall will look more like the one below which is equally as cool but very streamlined.

We've already purchased some Ribba frames from Ikea and have even hung some, but they are all empty. My challenge is going to be figuring out what to put in them on my close-to-non-existent art budget. I am already working on a few ideas...stay tuned for the challenge results.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

I'm not sure why I have never shared this recipe before. It's really easy and so yummy. I honestly couldn't tell you how many batches of these I have made. They are always a favorite and are hardly even around long enough to cool. They are really easy and have a super short ingredient list! Gotta love that.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients
-1 C Peanut Butter
-1 C Sugar
-1 Egg
-1 t Baking Soda
-1/2 t Salt
-2/3 C Chocolate Chips

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl or stand mixer combine peanut butter and sugar. Add egg. Last add baking soda, salt and chocolate chips. (Dough will be crumbly) Drop rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes. Allow to cool on pan for a few minutes then place on waxed paper to cool completely (I do not recommend cooling on a wire rack as they tend to fall through when warm).

*Hint: I do recommend forming dough into rounded balls and flattening slightly as the cookies do not change shape much while baking. Also you can place them pretty close together because they do not spread much.

Slow Cooker: Simple Pork Roast

Hi there. Happy St.Pattys Day! Sorry I don't have a fancy St. Patricks Day themed dish for you. Maybe next year. I do however have a really easy recipe for you. It is another slow cooker recipe. I love slow cooker recipes but I tend to only use them in the cooler months. I prefer to grill during warmer weather. So I thought I would post this while it is still slightly cool outside. Here in Ohio that is. Anyway here is the recipe.

Slow Cooker: Pork Roast

Ingredients
-Pork Roast (3-5lbs avg. size)
-1 packet onion soup mix
-Enough water to almost cover roast (usually 2-3 cups)
-You will also need a crockpot/slow cooker

Directions
Rinse pork roast with cold water (I do this with almost all meat).
Place roast in crock pot. Add onion soup packet. Add enough water to almost cover the roast. Set slow cooker on low and cook for atleast 6-8 hours. I do not recommend cooking for much more than 8 hours. Feel free to add veggies if you like this recipe is very flexible.

*I always cook mine for atleast 8 hours. I just start it in the morning before I go to work so really it ends up cooking for about 9 hours.

Serve with whatever sides you like. We think mashed potatoes and green beans are especially yummy with it.

TGIF: A new series

Hi! TGIF. I love fridays. I seriously treasure my weekends. Mostly because I love to sleep and I get to sleep in two days in a row!! =)  I have been thinking a lot about ways I can post more regularly. So I am going to start posting every friday in a series called "TGIF" (very original I know haha). I will be posting a collection of images for either projects, products or just random things that make me smile! Without further ado my first "TGIF" post!

We just purchased this duvet cover for our new guest room and I love it. It was only $24.99 @ Target. You can't beat that! You can find it here.

I am feeling really inspired right now and I have mile long list of things I want to make. I think it is because we are moving soon and I am excited to decorate a new place and have more space. This table is one of the many things on my to do list. It is one of many tutorials by the amazing ana-white.
 Isn't it pretty!

How cute is this skirt. I love the maxi skirt trend so cute and simple. This one is from anthropologie. However it is no longer available. =( I think it would be really easy to make though so I am on the look out for some great striped knit fabric. My sister and I are planning on making some of these soon so be watching for a tutorial on it!

Patagonian Maxi Skirt

This post has been very grey so far. Time to bring in some color! Spring is my favorite time of year. I really enjoy all of the seasons but there is just something about spring. I can't wait until we move and I can get a veggie garden planted and some pretty flowers! =) This photo is from organicgardening.com and actually has a seed starting chart here.
